THE MAG: MIGRATION GLOBAL • INVESTMENT ## The Mag: Migration Seedstars Global MARCH 17, 2020 Everyone is a migrant, and most people are not a native of the place where they are born. So, why is the world divided into [**migrants and “natives”**](https://seedstarslife.com/summit/bringing-displaced-people-together-with-locals-berat-kjamili)? How can we make sure that everyone [**feels**](https://seedstarslife.com/summit/how-one-man-is-transforming-access-to-mental-health-across-mena-ahmed-abu-elhaz) equally safe and comfortable in every corner of our common home? The estimated number of international migrants worldwide [**reached 272 million**](https://www.un.org/development/desa/en/news/population/international-migrant-stock-2019.html) in 2019, which is 51 million more than in 2010. Poverty, wars, lack of access to basic livelihoods make people leave the countries they call ‘[ **home**](https://seedstarslife.com/summit/building-homes-for-displaced-people-worldwide-jens-olsson)’ and seek a better place for themselves and their families. Despite the fact that [**migration**](https://seedstarslife.com/summit/no-regrets-policy-or-how-to-find-your-new-home-and-build-two-startups-in-the-meantime-nat-robinson) can be a beneficial phenomenon for a country’s economy, a lot of migrants are marginalized and often face human rights violations, less opportunities and discrimination in many societies. Meet [**Na Takallam**](https://natakallam.com/), [**Migport**](http://www.migport.com/), [**Life Shelter**](https://www.lifeshelter.com/), [**Shezlong**](https://www.shezlong.com/en/) and [**Leaf Global**](https://www.leafglobalfintech.com/), 5 of the 10 winners of the **Migration Entrepreneurship Prize** by the [**Human Security Division**](https://www.fdfa.admin.ch/eda/en/fdfa/fdfa/organisation-fdfa/directorates-divisions/directorate-political-affairs/hsd.html) (Switzerland). The prize was aimed at finding the most promising seed-stage startups working to alleviate the pressure for people, who take dangerous routes in their search for a new home.
