Este es un hackathon de duración de cinco días que reunirá a jóvenes emprendedores, estudiantes y mentores para desarrollar soluciones para los principales desafíos que la pandemia de COVID-19 ha causado para las MIPYMES rurales en el país. Se elegirán dos equipos ganadores para recibir un financiamiento de hasta $5,000.00 dólares estadounidenses en servicios y un programa de incubación de 3 meses para desarrollar aún más sus ideas. Estas MIPYMES generaron más de 2 millones de empleos en la economía dominicana, equivalentes al 54,4% de la población ocupada en el mercado laboral, y aportaron el 38,6% al PIB del país. Sin embargo, la pandemia de COVID-19 afectó la economía dominicana, lo que resultó en la pérdida de empleos, el cierre de negocios y un aumento de la pobreza. Para apoyar a los emprendedores dominicanos, la [Embajada de los Estados Unidos en la República Dominicana](https://do.usembassy.gov/) y [Seedstars](http://seedstars.com/) se unen para lanzar el Programa de Incubación y Hackatón de Innovación Rural. Este programa virtual reunirá a equipos de jóvenes emprendedores, estudiantes, profesores y líderes empresariales para brindarles una formación práctica en innovación y desarrollo de productos. El objetivo es crear soluciones de base tecnológica que mitiguen el impacto del COVID-19 en las PYMES de Montecristi, Dajabón, Santiago. Rodríguez, Valverde, Espaillat y Puerto Plata en la República Dominicana. Los participantes tendrán la oportunidad de unirse a un hackathon de cinco días con acceso a mentores, sesiones en línea, trabajo en equipo, etc. Los dos equipos ganadores también recibirán financiamiento de hasta $5,000.00 dólares estadounidenses en servicios y acceso a un programa de incubación de tres meses para seguir desarrollando sus soluciones.
