Seedstars and Shell Foundation Investment Readiness Program: details
The Investment Readiness Program, supported by UK charity and the Shell Foundation and run by Seedstars set out to find the best seed-stage startups within the sectors of agriculture, mobility, and energy in Sub-Saharan Africa. The objective of the program was to find and support tech startups in Africa addressing challenges related to:
- Access to energy (including household energy, energy for businesses, and energy nexus)
- Sustainable agriculture (including value chain innovations improving access to finance, technology, market or knowledge)
- Sustainable mobility (including safe rural and last-mile mobility for people and goods)
20 companies were selected to join the Investment Readiness Program. The startups set out on a 3 month long capacity building program that focused on topics such as product market fit, KPI tracking and unit economics, revenue and growth strategy, fundraising, legal processes, and more. Additionally, each of the startups was carefully paired with a mentor that they met with regularly 1on1 for three months to work on the biggest issues providing barriers to each startups' growth.
The result of these activities is 20 African startups that are prepared and ready to receive investment.
